Heart or Feeling Emptiness
According to goodtherapy.org, heart or feeling emptiness is a lack of meaning or purpose, feelings of emotional numbness or despair, and similar experiences may be symptomatic of other mental health concerns, such as depression, anhedonia, or schizophrenia. Emptiness can also be experienced as an aspect of bereavement following the death or seperation of a loved one.
Who has never lost? everyone has had experienced it, included myself. Everyone has a different experience of losing something such as losing money, dream job, someone who loved and many more. Everyone has not the same reaction when face those things, depend on their emotional and spiritual value they have.
Goodtherapy.org explained that emptiness can leave a person feeling emotionally numb, despondent, isolated, and anxious. People attempt to fill that void in a number of ways, often engaging in activities that are ultimately unfulfilling, such as compulsive shopping, eating, or the use of substances. Unfortunately, our consumer culture capitalizes on feelings like emptiness, promising fulfillment with this or that product.
Soul Emptiness
Quoted from J. Maurus a psychologist and author of How to win Personal Efficiency has once said in his book that human life in this era has experienced soul emptiness syndrome. Unfortunately he didn’t explain more detail about it, what is and how could this occurred?. J. Maurus as a psychology practical doesn’t have any research officially about soul emptiness syndrome, but for myself his words about it does captivate my mind.
According to wikipedia, “emptiness” in a general sense is a human condition, a sense of generalized boredom, social alienation and apathy. Feelings of emptiness often accompany dysthymia, depression, loneliness, anhedonia, despair, or other mental/emotional disorders, including schizoid personality disorder, post trauma, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, schizotypal personality disorder and borderline personality disorder. Wow those are complicated and serious problem, I thought.
The soul, in many religious, is the incorporeal essence of a living being like mirror of the invisible world or something behind walls, untouched, unseen, and irrational. Prof. Dr. Nazeer Ahmed, Ph.D once said in his article, what makes us human isn’t it our physical body but our attributes. These are the attributes of beauty and truth, harmony and rhythm, speech and intelligence, love and hate, justice and injustice, our longing for Divine Grace and the peace that comes with it. It is in the search for these attributes that we have to search for our common humanity. They are attributes of the Nafs. The Nafs is a Qur’anic term whose approximate translation is the soul or the Self. It connotes the essence the “I”, his said.
In short, soul is what we used to hear, see and feel. If someone used to hear bad things, see bad things and feel sad or angry, all those things are his soul and the otherwise. Back to goodtherapy.org, a person might instead attempt to combat feelings of emptiness and give new meaning to life by volunteering, taking up a hobby, adopting a pet, cultivating or maintaining a spiritual practice, or other activities that may prove more emotionally fulfilling.
My Answer is, none of both.
